Carlos Berrios Biography
Born in Bogotá, South America, to a Colombian mother and Peruvian father,
Carlos Berrios grew up in Queens, New York, listening to and being inspired by
the hit songs of the early and late 70’s.
At the age of 15, Carlos was mixing and blending music to become a sought after DJ for hire with a strong desire to take mixing to another level. This led Carlos to experiment with reel-to-reel recording and edit block splicing of audio.
After having learned his craft with a razor blade and an edit block over the
summer of 85’, he met and partnered with rising star producer Omar Santana
and formed "The Hit Squad". As half of the Hit Squad, Carlos was fortunate to work with such great artists as Duran Duran, Aerosmith, Samantha Foxx, Nona Hendrix, Grand Master, Pooba and producers like Jazzy Jay, Andy Panda, Mark Kamins and more; all this by the age of 23.
In 1987, Carlos produced his first two records, "Out Of Control" by Corina,
penned by Brooklyn's own Frankie Bones, and followed that with Jasmin's "On
The Loose". Eventually signing to Profile Records as the artist "Only In The
Dark", Carlos Berrios released his first single "Make Noise", which featured first
time vocalist, Lisette Melendez.
Scoring hit after hit from the start Carlos then teamed up with songwriter/
choreographer, and future filmmaker Franc. Reyes (Empire, Illegal Tender, The
Ministers) to write and produce Lisette Melendez’s revolutionary Top 40 hit
"Together Forever".
This record was credited with rejuvenating the pop dance music scene in New
York and led the way to Carlos’ production of Corina's "Temptation" for Atlantic Records. A single that found it's way into the Top 10. The only Latin Freestyle Dance Record ever to do so.
Carlos Berrios retired from making music in the early 90’s and started
experimenting with video editing which led to his first job directing music videos. That job led to another and another until now, after having worked on over 100 commercially released music productions and several music videos and short films, Carlos hopes to take all that experience and channel it into his first feature film.
In 2008, Carlos released a mammoth project featuring 22 new songs by New
York veteran dance music artists, and also plans to introduce new artists into the mainstream. He recently traveled to the Winter Music Conference in Miami where he received a lifetime achievement award.
